An artist-in-residence programme allows artists to live and work in new environments that are different from their usual studios or creative spaces. The artists of the Education Guild have designed and also participated as artists in residence in schools and institutes to bring art into the educational community.
The Sojornar project proposes that the residency be the other way round: the artists open the doors of Santa Mònica to the children of Escola Drassanes. For a week, the 4th grade children will inhabit the cultural centre and participate in the ongoing project Utopia Ramblas and in different activities organised by the artists in residence at the centre.
This is the second edition of the project initiated by the Education Guild 2021/22. This year the residency programme has been worked on jointly by the artists of the Education Guild and the faculty of the Escola Drassanes with the aim of making it a space and a time to rethink the relationship that children and their families have with their neighbourhood and with La Rambla, in a year in which the school is celebrating its tenth anniversary in the neighbourhood.
From 21 to 24 March, the school's children and teachers will work with different artists from Santa Mònica who will show them artistic research methodologies in order to reflect together on how we can rethink Las Ramblas, what it means to inhabit this space in the city and how we can develop collective imaginaries that also incorporate the viewpoint and thinking of children.
Within the framework of Sojornar, actions will be carried out and spaces for thought will be shared with the artists of the Utopia Ramblas exhibition and with the resident artists at Santa Mònica from the different trades: gastronomy, participation, publishing, communication, digitalisation and spaces.
