¿Cómo vivir en una zona de sacrificio? (How to live in a sacrifice zone?) begins as a process of exchange of knowledge and experiences between present and future sacrifice zones - places dedicated to the extraction of materials and energy, the production of goods or the reception of waste identified as unfit for life - through a bridge between Extremadura and Southern Patagonia, two contexts linked by colonial extractive processes. The project crystallised in several video capsules that, between concrete material spaces and a situated virtuality, ask what agency we can develop to multiply the possible cosmotechnical horizons, what technologies are really useful in a context of permanent crisis, and how we can link ourselves to the territory when the spectre of a sacrifice zone hovers over it.

The questions posed in ¿Cómo vivir en una zona de sacrificio? have led to Ramas, a series of residencies organised by Plataforma MAL to invite a group of artists to work on the effects of the digital and energy transition and the Eurocentric Next Generation policies in non-urban areas of the Iberian Southwest. In the framework of the screening of ‘Tuesdays of video’ we will put in dialogue the research of some of these artists, Azahara Cerezo, Jara Rocha and Víctor Ruíz Colomer, with the audiovisual matrix of Jose Iglesias García-Arenal.

Jose Iglesias García-Arenal (Madrid, 1991, currently lives in Los Santos de Maimona, Badajoz). Through artistic and curatorial practice, she works on long-standing processes around the politics of memory and the naturalisation of extractivist processes and heteropatriarchal violence that shape the territories we inhabit. Through different languages that cross writing, photography, audiovisual pieces, interventions in public space and collaborations with different agents, she has developed projects that have been shown in institutions such as the TEA in Tenerife (2024), Sala Europa in Badajoz (2024), MAC Presó in Mataró (2023), CICUS in Seville (2022), MUSAC in León (2017) and CAAC in Seville (2016). Since 2019 he has been promoting Plataforma MAL, an association to develop research projects and artistic creation from a perspective situated in the ‘diffuse urbanities’ of the Iberian southwest.
