Screening of the film and debate with Mireia Sallarès and Miquel Bassols
Exceptionally open session of the Santa Mònica curatorial training programme (create) Situations: participatory art and thought.
Open and free activity with capacity limited to 30 people.
Screening of the film Historia potencial de Francesc Tosquelles, Catalunya i la por (2021, 135 minutes) and discussion with the director Mireia Sallarès and Miquel Bassols, psychoanalyst, member of the Lacanian School of Psychoanalysis of the Freudian Field and president of the Association Mondiale de Psychanalyse.
Halfway between experimental documentary and speculative fiction, the film tells the story of the Catalan psychiatrist Francesc Tosquelles, not from what has been documented of the experiences in which he participated, but from what we are missing. Without separating the then and the now, the living from the dead, or the awareness of the unconscious, this film makes potential history of a doctor who in critical times of the 20th century politicised psychiatry, changing our relationship with madness and the normal man. Historia potencial de Francesc Tosquelles aims to reconstruct a legacy forgotten by Catalonia and the world, opening a self-critical space on the lack of memory of these pasts marked by war and exile.
Historia potencial de Francesc Tosquelles, Catalunya i la por is a project awarded ex aequo at the 7th Edition of the Videocreation Award. Co-production of a video-creation project between the Territorial Centres of the Public System of Visual Arts Equipments of Catalonia*, Santa Mònica, Department of Culture of the Generalitat de Catalunya and LOOP Barcelona.
