JOVES (in)MORTALS

Joves (in)MORTALS (Young (in)MORTALS) is an artistic laboratory centred around the idea of mourning as a transition, in collaboration and dialogue with a group of 4th-year ESO students from the Vedruna School in the Raval district. The project takes place between the school and Santa Mònica during the fall months of 2024.

Adolescence, in itself, is a period of transition and mourning: mourning for the loss of childhood, of a known way of life, and the transition to the unknown. The objective is to explore mourning as a journey toward self-knowledge and the discovery of one’s own identity, after experiencing and inhabiting our losses.

The sessions are conceived as creative conversations with the group of young people, where we identify, through play and collective creation, defining moments, experiences, or situations in their biography that have opened up a moment of change, a progression toward a new way of understanding the world and oneself.

Joves (in)MORTALS is part of the MORTALS (Liminal) project and includes the participation of artists Itxaso Corral and Mikel R. Nieto.
MORTALS (Liminal) is an artistic and research project about life and death, aimed at creating spaces for collective reflection on aging, end-of-life processes, palliative care, accompaniment, death, and mourning through the activation of working groups to share knowledge and experiences.

MORTALS (Liminal) is driven by artist Albert Potrony and Roser Sanjuan, a cultural manager and artistic mediator specializing in participatory and social art. The project has been developed in collaboration with different artistic institutions such as La Panera in Lleida and the Pilar and Joan Miró Foundation in Mallorca, along with social entities, educational institutions, and activist groups.
