My hart is so leeg soos 'n spieël - Kaapstad episode

מייַן האַרץ איז בלאַנק ווי אַ שפּיגל - קאַפּע טאַון עפּיזאָד

Who lives through apartheid without visible scars or wounds? Those who are part of a system but outside it at the same time. Those who live through history and go with the flow.

During the fascisms that took place in Europe during the first half of the 20th century, and in South Africa during the second half, most people did not themselves commit atrocities. But they were there while racial laws were proclaimed, and while deportation and segregation took place: some looked the other way, others believed everything they were told.

What remains in the houses of those that stayed silent? An unutterable imprint, tarnished photographs and mirrors that blur the image of the other as well as their own self.

On the other side, silence.
