Xu Gang, a doctor of neurophysiology at the University of Michigan, has recently demonstrated that people experience a peak of hyperconsciousness right before they die. At the very instant the heart stops, gamma wave activity and brain speed increase dramatically.

Why? Is it, as we have long believed, because we see a tunnel with an intense white light at the end? Or is it because we are viewing a high-speed replay of our life?

Whatever the reason, these are three to five seconds of intense conscious activity. Perhaps the most intense in a life that is now at an end. A few last instants of lucidity we still know nothing about.

And on the other side, death.

Domestic Data Streamers is a Barcelona-based art collective founded in 2013. It is formed by a multidisciplinary team (designers, journalists, creative technologists, data scientists, architects and psychologists) focused on exploring new data languages, their social impact and the creation of meaningful connections between information and people with a clear idea: we cannot understand the world without data, but neither can we understand it only with data.
