The mirror plays a decisive role in the construction of the self. The mirror reflects ourself as well as our doubles, our others.
Echo simulates an encounter with the self that regards us from the other side of the mirror, affording us a unique opportunity to converse with ourselves. Yet the encounter takes place through the prism of our own perspective of reality, producing an unsettling and disturbing experience we are unable to fully comprehend.
Will we end up like Narcissus, in love with our own image? Or will we know how to interpret Echo’s words?
On the other side, the double.
Guillaume Faure is a self-taught filmmaker and colourist for video, film and art. He has worked with leading creators such as Marc Caro, David Lynch, Lou Yé, Megaforce, the special effects studio Buf and the artist Agnès Guillaume.
Since 2010 he has been creating interactive systems linked to emotions. His previous project, SOMA, is a one-person cinema connected to the body that questions the free will of the spectator-actor through a "massage" of his or her subconscious. In recent years, he has created ALEA, a device that generates unexpected ruptures in discussions to encourage openness in the perception of others and of oneself. This AI evolved into ECHO, an interactive mirror that introduces us to our double.
