Señor H

Guerthy Gutiérrez

Obra

12 October 2023 - 31 January 2024

"Señor H" in installation format dialogues with the story published in VV.AA. (2023) #1Polisemias del silencio. Polisemias Collection. Barcelona: Jiser Reflexions Mediterrànies, which narrates the search to understand what happened to a man killed during the armed conflict in Colombia in 2005. This installation is composed of 500 words missing from the story. Each missing word in the publication evokes a void in the official narrative of the State and symbolizes the forgotten and silenced stories.

It is presented as a reading device that invites the viewer to complete the story and give another meaning(s) to this history silenced for years. It is a call for reflection on the construction of the hegemonic narrative, reminding us of the importance of rescuing situated and micro-political narratives in the reconstruction of collective memory.

The project is configured as a line of escape from the artistic research "Piénsese Sin Miedo" (2013 - 2014), based on the resignification of the notion of victim of the armed conflict in Colombia.

Guerthy Gutiérrez. Born in Bogota, Colombia (1990), the context of political violence in her territory and her personal experience as a victim of the conflict, specifically the murder of her father, motivated her interest in reconceptualizing the perception of victim, investigating the depths of this condition and unfolding the tensions and various dimensions of victimization: fear, memory, reparation. From there, she became involved in research and training processes, from where she developed a series of performative actions, murals, audiovisual productions, publications and dissemination activities.

In 2008 she enters the Visual Arts career at the Universidad Javeriana in Bogota. In this context, she begins to shape the research project "Piénsese sin Miedo", oriented to the reconceptualization of victimization, reviewing the dynamics and interactions between public policy, the invisibilization of responsibilities, impunity and the urgency of unveiling the transformative and creative power of people affected by the armed conflict.

In 2018 she moves to Barcelona, where she faces the multiple challenges of migration. In April 2021, as part of the commemoration of the national day of the victims of the armed conflict, the Secretary of Culture of Jamundí, Valle del Cauca, invites the artist to a virtual conversation on culture, human rights and peace pedagogy.

In October 2022, she participates in an online conversation organized by the Ministry of Culture of Colombia, called "Cuando Habla el Río: Visualidad y Representación del Conflicto Armado en Colombia" (When the River Speaks: Visuality and Representation of the Armed Conflict in Colombia).

In March 2023 she presents in Barcelona her view on the project "Piénsese sin Miedo", focused on the invisibilization of the political experience of violence, the conflicts that persist and migration, in the conference "Saberes Migrantes: Giving body to silence".
