Stories about abundance

If you have seen a vegetable garden you will know that nature is generous and gives us, in every season, the food we need. In supermarkets there is such an abundance of products and at such a low price that it is very difficult to detect and value the implications behind each choice we make. We also know that a lot of food is thrown away and that this has huge environmental and social consequences.
Anti-waste campaigns put the emphasis on the end consumer and his or her responsibility and we know little, for example, about the power relations along the agri-food chain or the policies that favour agribusiness to the detriment of the peasantry. Nor is there much discussion of class inequalities and the other intersectional components that affect access to food and its treatment.
From this vision of apparent abundance, it is clear that we are facing a systemic problem.
Why is food thrown away? Are we talking about logistics, consciousness, aesthetics or politics?
What is our responsibility and how do we address it without giving in to eco-anxiety?
And why are we talking about this in an art centre?
In this podcast we'll delve into food harnessing as a tool for emancipation and how we can assert our power to influence the current food system. We will do this over a meal talking about curating, sustainability and community(ies).
