Talking about food is the best way to talk about politics.
How many of us know what produce is local or seasonal, or how it was grown? How many of us know where our food comes from or how far it travelled?
How many can really afford to care about the answers to these questions? While millions of people face hunger, a third of the world's food ends up in landfills.
The putrefaction of this food emits methane, a greenhouse gas even more potent than carbon dioxide. Food is not only the best example of inequality, but also contributes to the climate crisis in more ways than one.
A conversation designed as a collective exercise, where talking about food and its consumption will be the best way to talk about politics.
We will count on the presence of municipal entities that will answer us about food policies in the city of Barcelona and the transformation of this towards collaborative and sustainable models.
The artist Marcel-lí Antúnez Roca will take part in the event, presenting his latest work in audiovisual format, El Árbol de la Comida en Xelistán. A journey of excesses that shows his interest in debauchery, excess, decomposition and bacchanalia.
El Árbol de la Comida en Xelistán has two branches: the Real and the Figurative, neither of which is eaten. From the Real branch sprout three branches: the Attire, the Game and the Orgy. From the Figurative branch sprout the Fable and the Pharmacopoeia.
The video shows on the right branch those works that use food as a form of costume or garnish, and on the left, on the branch at the opposite end, the results of the ingestion of some drugs and their effects. The diagram contains more than twenty-five fruits, fragments of almost twenty works from 1984 to 2015.
This activity is part of the set of initiatives being developed as part of the SocialFestBcn project.

A multidisciplinary creator, he is one of the most outstanding figures in the international field of electronic art and stage experimentation. In the 1980s, he was the founder and leader of La Fura dels Baus. Since the 1990s, he has focused on research closer to the visual arts, video and interaction with technology. Antúnez has created an iconoclastic universe based on the incorporation of computer and electronic systems. His mechatronic performances and interactive installations incorporate robots and all kinds of electronic systems.
