Laboratori de creació Arxipièlag

The working group of the Creation Laboratory: a collective archipelago will meet over four months (from March to June) in eight working sessions, each lasting two hours. The group will work on the basis of a selection of films by five women auteurs who are among those most honoured by the participants in the Archipelago project and who, through their work, have contributed fundamental considerations about cinema and life: Margaret Tait, Barbara Hammer, Chantal Akerman, Agnès Varda and Naomi Kawase.

The viewing of these works and subsequent dialogue will facilitate re-readings and reinterpretations of film that the participants will be able to develop in their pieces and, as a result, trace affective lines of thought and representation inspired by the work of an acclaimed artist.

During the two initial sessions, we will jointly view the works that will serve as a starting point for working on individual or collective re-reading pieces.

The members of the working group will be able to draw inspiration and reflect on the creative, thematic or formal features that the participants of the Archipiélago project have highlighted in their tributes to these filmmakers. In addition, the islands of the aforementioned filmmakers can be consulted online in the context of the project's virtual installation.

The Archipelago Project is a collective tribute to inspiring, groundbreaking and innovative filmmakers that was launched in 2017. Over the course of four editions, this archipelago has been nourished by video, text, GIF or image pieces sent in by the participants, highlighting the creative heritage of these filmmakers, the often surprising or improbable connections and the generational relay.

This project is the result of a collaboration between the Santa Mònica Creation Laboratory, coordinated by Andrés Duque and Mònica Rovira, and the Mostra Internacional de Films de Dones de Barcelona.
