Activity related to the exhibition Dozing on the accidental provocation
Cama del dolor compartido (Bed of shared pain) is a one-off collective performance born out of the need to share chronic pain in a public space, such as an art centre, in the context of an exhibition that addresses the theme of home.
It will bring together five people physically and virtually, to explore in an embodied way the experience that pain can also serve to bring us closer together and create networks of collaboration and support.
It will take place on a bed in the shape of a hache, made by intervening six old sofas from the centre itself.
In our western culture, capitalist, empowering, racist, lgtbiqa+phobic and colonialist, pain in general and of course chronic pain is something private, intimate and shameful. Something to hide, that the only positive thing it brings is to be inspiring for those who do not suffer from it, who should consider themselves lucky and grateful.
We make invisible and stigmatise in a naturalised way otherness, that is, everything that is not "normal" and desirable (i.e. with money, white, bipedal, straight, oral, visual, young, European, healthy, skinny).
We, the mourners, the sick, the diskas, are confronted with precariousness, social isolation and with medical and legal violence that articulates ableism, systematically annulling our experiences, calling into question our needs and denying our right to decide.
To live with chronic pain and to show it is usually to hear: "Does it still hurt? "Will you ever get better? "Ugh, that's a shame! "And being so young. "I just admire you so much, I don't know how you can". "Well, you look fine to me". "Have you already tried...?".
It will take place in the open horizontal space and can be followed both in person and online. In many occasions this is the only way of connection for many diskas, and also virtual connections play a key role in the emergence of initiatives made by diskas for diskas.
On the other hand, in order not to leave out part of the diska community again, live subtitling and LSC will be available in all formats.
