Mecal Pro is an international short film and animation festival that is celebrated annually in Barcelona and of which this year is the 22nd edition. With an extensive program, it has four official competitive sections: Animation, Oblique, International and Documentary, as well as numerous parallel sections, some of which are the same every year, like Terror, Womart, Go Green and SciFi, and others that are new this year, like #MeToo, Macho Men and LGBTIQ+.
The program is designed to showcase current themes and offer a representative sample of the best international trends in animation and short-format film. On top of the screenings, there are multiple activities within the frame of the festival, such as workshops, round tables, and masterclasses, directed at both professionals and the general public. Also, as a result of Mecal’s commitment to audiovisual development, Mecal organizes Market sessions in networking and coaching, which are intended especially to give promotion tools to emerging talent and to connect creators to funding.
Each week will be exclusively dedicated to a film genre and its corresponding activities and parallel sections:
Animation: March 19 - 22
Fiction: March 26 - 29
Documentary: April 2 - 5
