A new space for participation at Santa Mònica is born

The Santa Mònica opens a new participation space open to everyone that functions both as a place for consultation and as a meeting point and connection between the arts centre and the public.

Through installations and interactive resources, the space, located at the end of the foyer, invites the artistic communities, the neighbourhood and visitors to the centre to have their say, reflect and actively participate in the debates that underpin the centre's lines of research, and thus contribute to the exhibitions and projects of the coming years.

Question, question yourself, question us

The space opens as a space for active participation and collective reflection with a large installation created by the Domestic Data Streamers collective. Entitled Qüestiona, qüestiona't, qüestiona'ns, the installation functions as an open dialogue structured around four main axes: arts centre and institution, culture and society, protest and resistance, and planet and sustainability. By means of a form, participants can contribute questions and opinions that, week after week, become a dynamic x-ray of the public's perspectives through a voting system.

The aim is twofold: to allow visitors to influence the centre's future thematic lines and to generate debate on the exhibition contents and the role of Santa Mònica as an artistic and cultural space.

In addition, to explore the centre's lines of research in greater depth, visitors can consult the books and fanzines offered by the Balda, a project promoted by the resident artists of the publishing guild.

A new foyer for a more open centre

The opening of the new space coincides with the completion of the refurbishment work carried out in the Santa Mònica foyer, which represents a further step in the centre's project to promote participation and access to culture.

The two iconic wooden doors can now remain open thanks to the new automatic glass access, making the foyer a more open and accessible space. To further blur the boundary between inside and outside, a new paving has been chosen that is in keeping with the new Rambla. With this renovation, the Santa Mònica reaffirms itself as a public cultural resource at the service of the public, especially the people who live in the Raval and pass along the Rambla.
