Residence for children in the 4th year of primary school at the Escola Drassanes
The Santa Mònica hosts the Sojornar project, which is based on a reverse artistic residency with the Escola Drassanes.
The concept of a reverse artistic residency is based on the contamination between artistic and educational practices, making the students of the Escola Drassanes the ones who intervene and occupy the arts centre, and not the other way around. The 4th grade pupils of Escola Drassanes are in contact with the artists who are part of the exhibition cycle, as well as with the artists in residence (the Mòniques) at Santa Mònica.
This year is the third edition of the project, which was promoted by the resident artists of the Education Guild 2021/2022, made up of Elena Blesa, Jordi Ferreiro and Alba Rihe. In the first edition, Sojornar was linked to the exhibition The tradition that runs through us, and to the celebration of 10 years of the Escola Drassanes in the neighbourhood.
The second edition consolidated the alliance with the Escola Drassanes and the Education Guild 2022/2023, made up of Gemma París, Alejandro Santaflorentina, Marta R. Chust and Alba Rihe, which developed the residency week at the Santa Mònica. The project was based on the exhibition Utopia Ramblas and the relationship between the children of Drassanes and the neighbourhood where the school is located.
In this third edition, Sojornar is formalised as a stable project of the Santa Mònica in collaboration with the Escola Drassanes and a mediation team, and will be linked to the exhibition cycle El otro lado, based on the idea of traffic as the axis of artistic research.
Sojornar 2023/2024 will be held from 12 to 15 March. During these days, students and teachers will move to Santa Mònica to remain as an active agent of the organism that makes up the internal community of the centre. Throughout this time, children and teaching staff - together with the resident artists, the centre's team and some of the artists in the exhibition - will go through various collective learning situations that will break down the traditional logic of who knows and who doesn't know, who learns and who has to teach, who is an artist and who is the public, and what are the spaces where we can learn and those where we can have a good time.
