Residents artists 2024/2025
From the Participation Guild 24/25 we asked ourselves how to use our place as residents to reverse the logic of violence and exclusion in art centres and artistic mediation. This year Kha Villanueva, Tatiana Antoni Conesa and Violeta Ospina Domínguez participated. We situate our action in the redistribution of public resources towards bodies historically excluded from the colonial institution of the museum / art centre.
We understand artistic mediation as a tool to elaborate discomfort and generate spaces for listening. We want the participatory mediation proposals to be born from listening to the context in which the Santa Mònica was imposed. Its appearance responds to political and urban planning strategies that have used art spaces as tools for cleaning up and progress in the Raval / Barrio Xino neighbourhood.
We propose the IDE prototype (Invocation - Digestion - Excretion) as a tool for redistribution and a container for listening. We invoke in individual sessions where a person from the neighbourhood (young men or adults from the Raval in economic urgency) and an artist from the guild elaborate the discomforts produced by structural violence. We have a collective meeting to share and process what we have lived through a meal. We excrete by facilitating access to the centre's resources for group creative production based on these experiences.
During implementation, we have encountered racist, ableist and transphobic administrative barriers to paid participation. To address this, we developed the MIA (Mapping the Administrative Unconscious) prototype, which seeks to document and dialogue about fiscal violences and propose strategies to circumvent them.
Our aim is that these actions not only generate partial redress, but activate dynamics and learning, ongoing processes of redistribution and material access to the cultural institution.
