Activity free of charge without prior registration
Between 2022 and 2023 the Spaces Guild has observed that in Santa Mònica, between the periods of interval between exhibitions, public activities continue to be held and its doors are open so that the processes of change of cycle can be experienced as a phase or part of the meaning of the centre and its curatorial direction. A period between exhibitions that we call "EntreActe".
This activity of interviews in the street at the entrance of the Santa Mònica, carried out in December 2023, the EntreActes: studies on a door, tries to investigate what there is between the outside and the inside, precisely between, between the space that emanates the atmosphere of between, we invite you to enter, to go inside, but also to be between, between what was and what can be.
In theatre, the intermission is defined in a dramatic performance as an intermission, an interruption between parts of a play. In theatre intermissions, more specifically in the old dramatic performances, the intermission (the dance, the comedy numbers, the sainete, etc.) had to be a different action from the one that was performed on stage, both aesthetically and relationally, and especially without any technical and spatial necessity because the technique was precisely preparing the stage for the next act. This meant that, so to speak, the event that was happening on stage became secondary. This is interesting because, in a way, the relation of expression and listening between artist and space becomes more horizontal.
This change in the perspective of EntreActes during which the artistic event and the everyday reality of the space where it takes place interests us, because it brings us closer to a more empathetic and horizontal organisation, where all the inhabitants of a space are committed to expressing and listening to each other on equal terms, encouraging the active listening of the spectators, and increasing the listening and empathy of the artist, a fact that we would like to investigate and link with the devices of the Situated Observations, El Salto de la Fiera, Ascensor Social, Lift-Leaks, already developed by the guild during the previous residency.
The artist-in-residence at Santa Mònica, Pedro Bennaton, from Spaces Guild, proposes this prototype EntreActes: studies on a door to give a unitary sense to a series of interventions and experimental actions that can be deployed between these periods and specific spaces. This door study organises, by means of a sound installation, the interviews carried out in the street on the form and quality of the entrance to the centre, in order to experiment with other formats and views within the same centre, the same door.
Activity within the framework of EntreActos, the programme of experimental actions and activations during the period between exhibitions, promoted by the Santa Mònica Spaces Guild.
With the participation of the actress Luana Raiter and the actor Miguel Valenzuela. Text: Pedro Bennaton
