"This 'camera without images', without register or archive, does not record, preserve, or fix the visible in any image, its mystery is that its stone only preserves its own memory and that of the river, as well as that of the gestures of any being who approaches it and turns it, it also produces sound that is amplified as an echo in the space around it, without the need for electricity. It is present as a question that continues the interrogations and gaps of this interweaving of image-text".

Alexandre Chanoine (France, 1986) lives and works in the Creuse, France. His artistic practice is mainly oriented towards sculpture. He creates objects with stones that are at the same time sculptures, toys and instruments. He manipulates them, moves them, makes them sound by exploring the powers of primitive gestures, or the beginnings of erosion. He discovered stone engraving in 2010 in the lithography studio of the Nantes School of Fine Arts. This operation consists of smoothing the surfaces of the lithographic stone by rubbing them one on top of the other with fine sand and water. In this way, he discovered the sound produced by the stones. His work then acquires a performative dimension: the work is no longer a final result, but a means to play in the present and in space. Her performances involve simple repetitive gestures such as pushing, stretching, turning, swinging...
