L'algorisme despullat

The naked algorithm invites us to do an experiment to see how the moon and its cycles can influence the outcome and deterministic execution of a machine. "If you pick the potatoes in an old moon, they don't shrivel up. And if you cut your hairs, they grow longer little by little".

Every night, an algorithm draws a piece of generative art on a naked, unprotected, uncased machine. The drawings it creates are saved, along with the date, exact time and lunar state in which they were generated.

The collection of drawings on display shows variations: how has it affected the moon and its phases, are the old moon days evident, has the new moon added unexpected details? The experiment and its result, the drawings generated, question how nature and the environment can affect technology.

Anna Carreras (Barcelona, 1979)

Anna Carreras is a creative programmer and digital artist interested in experimenting with the use of generative algorithms and creative code as a means of communication and generator of experiences. She is interested in the complexity that emerges from small simple behaviours, the complexity that emerges from the balance between order and chaos. He tries to capture the diversity and richness of complexity by working with visual algorithms.

He has exhibited digital installations and artistic pieces for Feral File, Art Blocks, Llum Barcelona, Eufònic Sintètic, Sónar, MIRA festival de Artes Visuales, Abandon Normal Devices Liverpool, Medialab Prado Madrid, Google DevArt, among others.

Degree in Telecommunications Engineering from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC) and Master in Audiovisual Technologies from the Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), he is currently doing a PhD at BAU, school of art and design, on complexity in generative digital art.
