Ars Electronica Garden Barcelona Show

Exhibition

Exhibition | 09-20.09.2020 | Balcony space, level 0 and 1.

The exhibition features the BEEP Collection's most recent acquisitions and productions: Das tangible Bild and The Endless Sandwich, both by renowned Austrian artist and theoretician Peter Weibel, founder and CEO of the ZKM Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, and Vestibular_1 by Albert Barqué-Duran and Marc Marzenit.

Three brand-new works will also be on show, produced thanks to grants awarded to Mónica Rikić for New Home of Mind, Roc Parés for Doble Consciència and Santi Vilanova for Forms – Screen Ensemble. The three projects were selected through a public call for applications for production and exhibition grants by the Institut Ramon Llull, NewArtFoundation and Hangar, in collaboration with the BEEP Collection.

The show provides a representative example of the activity of the BEEP Collection, a Catalan collection with international focus, that does not merely accumulate works of art, but is also active in the production of projects by both up-and-coming and established artists and projects to recover, restore and conserve pioneering works, essential to build the history of electronic art.

The show is part of the 41st Ars Electronica, the world's largest festival focused on the links between art, technology and society, which, because of the health crisis, has revised its format based on its singular characteristics: virtuality, ubiquity and community.

Its new format is delocalized and multilocation and takes shape in 120 gardens, in cities around the world, that aggregate physically and virtually in the institute's centre in Linz, Austria. Together the venues form a cosmogeny that articulates a map of art and international creativity related to technology, science, research and experimentation, as is evident from the title of this 41st festival In Kepler's Gardens. A global journey mapping the 'new' world, which takes place from 9 to 13 September.

Garden Barcelona is a project by the Institut Ramon Llull, Hangar, NewArtFoundation/BEEP Collection, UOC/ISEA Barcelona and OFFF Barcelona.

Ars Electronica Garden Barcelona is at Arts Santa Mònica during the festival dates and will continue until 20 September, to be part of the extraordinary edition of Sónar+D CCCB taking place at the Barcelona Centre for Contemporary Culture on the 18th and 19th of this month.
