Interfaces is Arts Santa Mònica’s mediation program, which develops initiatives on education, culture and citizenry related to the content produced at the arts center. This activity is a workshop in dialog with the Sala d’Art Jove exhibition Follow the trail as though you were nearsighted for work dealing with life trajectories, professional careers and the desires surrounding emerging art practices related to mediation, research and curatorship.

Coinciding with its 10th anniversary, the Sala d’Art Jove is organizing an exhibition and various activities at Arts Santa Mònica from July 19 to October 2. Sala d’Art Jove has been a space dedicated to cultivating emerging cultural practices and groups of artists, creators and cultural workers in different formats and typologies. In the areas of curating, research, specific interventions, education and publishing, among others, the space has provided an enclave for experimentation in the city of Barcelona. Its focus on education and the processes of mediation and research is especially important, since it supports emerging and hybrid projects which do not fit in easily with other institutional structures. Within this breakout space, devoid of institutional structure, these practice can be read like a vanishing point, an overflow that provides the context for this workshop.

Interfaces proposes a collective workshop to generate connections and spaces for “escaping forward” – in other words, coming up with new cultural emergences based on situated life experienced. The workshop will be led by people who have been in residence at the Sala d’Art Jove so they can share the stories of their professional and personal lives – ultimately, their experiences – with other people who are just starting out or are students in the field of culture, to help participants visualize their own life experiences and expectations.  The directors of the workshop will be Fito Conesa, Maria Garcia, Jordi Ferreiro and Lola Lasurt.
