Jordi Colomer is the winner of the first Edition of the Video Creation Prize launched by LOOP Barcelona, la Xarxa de Centres d’Arts Visuals de Catalunya and Arts Santa Mònica. In LOOP Barcelona 2015 the artist is premiering his last work ‘X-VILLE’ on Thursday 28 May 20h at Arts Santa Mònica, a video that revolves around the utopias and their capacity to bring crowds together.

This prize aims to stimulate the co-production of a project in the field of contemporary practices that integrates the sole medium of video into the proposal as a whole. The objective is to develop strategic actions that can develop via a network, increasing visibility on a national level and gaining international presence.
At the beginning of ‘X-VILLE’ a young woman says: “Our time is a time of utopias. There are many: the American 'Way of Life', Communism or Human Rights. They all have the capacity to mobilize the masses”. The video is inspired by various texts by philosopher and utopian architect Yona Friedman, specifically by his book 'Realizable Utopias' (1974), a work that promotes alternative forms of organizing big cities as collective answers to dissatisfaction. Colomer’s video is constructed through collective situations, recreating images of alternative ways of organisation for the Metropolis.
