Africa Moment presents On foot: sensing carnival, a session in which the artist and researcher Hawah Bunduka will guide us to play with the relationship between the feet and the ground / Mother Earth to collectively create a soundscape inspired by the sounds of Afro-diasporic carnivals. An invitation to enter, from the corporal and sonorous, into the experience of carnival in the contemporary British-Caribbean context from a decolonial perspective.
Hawah is a transdisciplinary creator and practitioner working globally since 2000 for social justice, healing and liberation of people marginalised by ‘race’, gender and trauma. Cultural somatics is her starting point for exploring power and social transformation. Born and raised in London and of Sierra Leonean descent, Hawah's practice is grounded in decolonial research on carnival arts in the contemporary British-Caribbean context, combining living arts, global and community development, peacebuilding, mindfulness/meditation, breathwork, youth justice, healing justice and gender justice.
