Dimecres de so i cos

Africa Moment presents a performative intervention inspired by the choreographic work KONG, the new stage work by the choreographer Oulouy. A piece in which the renowned Ivorian dancer Ordinateur embodies the figure of the silverback gorilla as a satire of the bestiality of the Western colonial gaze imposed on black African bodies. A proposal where the image and the word take force with which Oulouy reflects on the state, challenges and urgencies of the continent, interweaving humour, sensitivity and a masterful choreographic display.

By Oulouy

Oulouy is one of the most notorious figures on the international urban dance scene. Born in the Ivory Coast and based in Barcelona for the last few decades, Oulouy combines his work as a dancer, choreographer and artistic director with his educational activity, giving master classes all over the world. His novel Black (2020) - a reflection on violence and the emancipation of black bodies in contemporary societies - and Afrikan Party (2022) - a futuristic ode to Africa accompanied by his international crew The Supa Rich Kids - have led him to work on the world's most renowned stages, such as the Perelman Performing Arts Center in New York, the Bluma Appel in Toronto, Fabrik Potsdam in Germany, Dansens Hus in Norway, Suzanne Dellal Center, Mercat de les Flors, Teatro Principal de Palma, Journées Theatrales de Carthage, among others. He is the founder and curator of the OYOFE International Festival dedicated to street dance. Oulouy undertakes a choreographic exercise in which urban dances with African and diasporic roots are placed at the centre as the driving force of contemporary stage creation, generating an open window of infinite possibilities for the next generations. In 2024 Oulouy was awarded the prize for best choreography of the year at the Catalan Critics' Awards for the Performing Arts for Afrikan Party, a choral work that has also been included in the choreographic archive of the New York Public Library.
