"Txabeta" de Djam Neguin

Dimecres de so i cos

Africa Moment presents Txabeta by Djam Neguin, a performance adapted to an unconventional space of futuristic immersion resulting from the interface between the Cape Verdean musical genre batuku, the posthumanist vision and queer theory.

Txabeta is the third chapter in a series of solos that began in 2020, inspired by the ancestral rhythms and dances of Cape Verde.

An invitation to think Cape Verdean culture and identity in futuristic aesthetic powers, with an attentive look at the insinuations of technological advances, but above all the need to create, in the midst of the cultural war of the consumption of cultural-digital images, the projection of Cape Verdean culture into the future.

The performance will be followed by a space for dialogue with Djam Neguin.

Djam Neguin is one of the most outstanding and inescapable figures of the Cape Verdean artistic and cultural scene. A multidisciplinary artist whose unique career has been marked by countless talents and productions in the fields of dance, music, theatre, fashion, performance, literature and audiovisual, which also complement his achievements as a producer and activist. Born and raised in Cape Verde, in the town of Praia, until the age of nine, he soon revealed his creative ribs. His move to Portugal, where he lived until the age of 19, was crucial to his development. His skills blossomed. His adolescence was filled with outstanding artistic achievements, including Portuguese and international awards (in the field of literature, for example), Djam joined the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema in 2010, but his studies were interrupted. Since returning to his hometown 12 years ago, he has built an unstoppable career, marked by a widely applauded inventiveness and transdisciplinarity. From Hollywood, New York, Paris, Mozambique, Senegal, Spain, Brazil, the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, etc. His chameleonic and fusionist vocation has been his main hallmark. He is the creator of the Kontornu International Contemporary Dance Festival (in Cape Verde).

Creator and coordinator of the cplp Dance Network, creator of the Mostra da Dança da Praia event, among others. He has choreographed the most important cultural events on the country's agenda and has also been one of the main organisers of urban dance in the last decade, organising battles and the national hip hop competition. He has taught in major capitals around the world and has regularly organised workshops. He was a founding member and dancer of the cabo-verde ballet (2014-2016), has been creating his own shows since 2015, and has already performed in ceará, as well as the Litoral Festival (both in Fortaleza, Brazil), the Festdança Festival (Mozambique), and recently, in 2022, toured with Clara Andermatt's show "Pantera", and also presented his solo "na-ná" at the Dias da Dança Festival in Oporto in 2023.
