La Yuca
General public
Free entry with limited capacity to 55 people
"La Yuca" is a work in progress. A vocal, corporal, rhythmic and erotic exercise.
With Jaume Ferrete Vázquez.
Yucca is a vegetable widely used in those territories now called Latin America, unknown to the Spanish colonisers and recorded in the chronicles of their invasion.
"Yucca" is also one of the many words used to refer to the penis in several of those territories: a way of saying what cannot be said, saying without saying or saying two things at the same time.
"La Yuca" is a work in progress. A vocal, corporal, rhythmic and erotic exercise based on those words and those ways of saying.
"La Yuca", together with "Somos los Conguitos", is part of a broader attempt to approach, from the point of view of art, the popular colonial heritage that runs through the artist, as well as his affective experience of the years he lived in Mexico.
Jaume Ferrete Vázquez works as an artist and independent researcher on the notion of voice, through performance, listening sessions, archives, workshops, conversations, sound works and websites. He has collaborated with multiple institutions (MACBA, MNCARS, MUAC UNAM, Secession, UPV/EHU, TEOR/éTica...) and has received multiple awards (Generation 2016, Leonardo BBVA Foundation Grants, AMEXCID, OSIC, City of BCN Grants...). He is currently developing a long-standing research on synthetic voices and performance.
