Alfredo Costa Monteiro is a sound artist, improviser and sound poet, born in Porto, Portugal. He lives and works in Barcelona since 1992, when he graduated in sculpture / multimedia with Christian Boltanski at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris.

His installations and sound pieces are made from unstable processes, conceptual restrictions and forms of an often disconcerting simplicity, where the manipulation of objects as instruments or instruments as objects has a strong phenomenological aspect.

He has been involved since 1995 in various improvised and experimental music projects, each time using different instrumentation such as the accordion, the prepared guitar, the turntable, electro-acoustic devices or resonant objects, to give each of these projects a particular identity.

In sound poetry, his work focuses on the musicality of language and its phonetic content, always maintaining a balance with semantics. His poems are generally noisy and polyglot (mainly in Spanish, Portuguese and French, but also in Catalan and English), and use combinatory systems based on common phonemes in these languages to create multiple meanings that often lead to confusion and defy comprehension.

He has collaborated with countless musicians, choreographers, video artists and filmmakers around the world, and has presented his work throughout Europe, Canada, the United States, Russia and Japan. He has an extensive discography on labels all over the world, both solo and in various ensembles.
