Flux Summa: Macromassa
Open and free activity with a limited capacity of 55 people
Macromassa is a pioneering project of sound and musical experimentation initiated in Barcelona in 1976 by Juan Crek and Víctor Nubla. The two are the only permanent members from the beginning of the project until Nubla's death in 2020, despite the fact that over the course of their career they have had more than a hundred collaborators, such as Anton Ignorant, Michel Huygen and Albert Giménez.
Despite being an essentially musical project, their field of experimentation was extended from the beginning to the literary field, performance and installation. Their first album Darlia Microtónica, recorded in 1976 at the Sala Màgic in Barcelona and released in 1978 in a limited edition, is currently considered the first self-published work in Spain.
Between 1978 and 2018 Macromassa released twelve official records and one cassette and participated in sixteen compilations. The group's career has two interruptions: between 1980 and 1983, and between 1997 and 2008, periods in which Crek and Nubla devoted themselves to their respective solo careers.
Macromassa is a key name in what is known as the Spanish industrial or post-industrial scene of the eighties, along with groups like Esplendor Geométrico or Comando Bruno, but their versatility over the years also places them as a reference name in the improvisation scene in Spain and in the field of polypoetry, especially since their show Apushasha: el punto 3502. The difficulty of locating Macromassa stylistically comes from the strong and personal surrealism and humour that permeate all his work.
In this session we will watch a selection of videos of his performances between 1991 and 2010.
