Flux Summa: Il Gran Teatro Amaro
Open and free activity with a limited capacity of 55 people
Screening and discussion with the presence of Gat.
Il Gran Teatro Amaro is a musical group founded in 1990 by Roberta Possamai, François-Régis Cambuzat and Robert van der Tol.
After five years, Gat, a Catalan musician and director of the record label G3G records, joined the group. The line-up changed over time with the departure of Roberta and François-Régis and the incorporation of different musicians.
They played hundreds of concerts all over Europe, always entirely acoustic. This created a theatrical atmosphere that allowed them an intimacy with the audience that would not have been possible with amplification. They were active until 2018.
The critics said that Il Gran Teatro Amaro travels through time and distance with a music that starts from the interwar period and takes up again the European tradition that was cut short by Nazism, this fortunate collision of the rogue and cabaret airs coming from the evolution of folklore and traditional popular music with the artistic avant-garde and classical music from a totally contemporary perspective. They deploy a complete arsenal of instruments: double bass, guitars, banjo, mandolin, musical saw, ukulele, accordion, marimba, xylophone, piano and all kinds of percussion and various objects, and not a single microphone on stage, not just for the voices, with a perfect sound, without one instrument covering the others. Like a small travelling cabaret, the bohemian troupe presents itself. Like a trans-European express train, one of those trains that moved slowly along the tracks when journeys lasted just long enough to enjoy the scenery, a night train that passes through many countries looking for their darkest and most suggestive corners.
In this session we will watch a selection of videos of their concerts between 1990 and 2018.
