Is an image an archive? Filipa César and Jean Rouch: from La pyramide humaine to The four chambered heart
Activity open to everyone and free of charge, limited to 55 people.
The four chambered heart is the film resulting from Filipa César's invitation to the artistic residency of the Israeli Digital Art Center in Holon in 2007. Based on Jean Rouch's film La pyramide humaine (1959), César's proposal shows the reactions of students from different film schools to the French filmmaker's film. The conflict between Palestine and Israel, the colonizing gaze and the role of the filmmaker herself end up articulating a deep reflection on the place of cinema in contemporary political reality.

Filipa César is an artist and filmmaker interested in the fictional aspects of documentary, the porous borders between cinema and reception, and the politics and poetics inherent in the moving image and image technologies. Since 2011, he has been researching the origins of the cinema of the African Liberation Movement in Guinea Bissau as a laboratory of resistance to dominant epistemologies.
