Dijous de ràdio

...Or how to make experimental and short sound formats.

The aim of this workshop is to raise awareness and learn about the fundamental aspects of active listening and to articulate these concepts in order to learn how to make a sound fanzine.

The activity will be divided into 3 modules:

  1. Introduction to historical and practical concepts:
    • Noise, silence and music.
    • Brief historical overview of the sound arts and related creative practices.
    • Concepts and tactics of listening and recording.
    • Brief introduction to digital audio editing.
  2. Field activity where participants will collect audio in and around the workshop area, putting into practice the notions acquired in the first theoretical module.
  3. Creation of a personal sound fanzine, using different digital audio editing software.

Two working formats are proposed for the creation of the fanzine.

  • Editing on a mobile device via an application (Lexis Audio Editor, Mstudio).
  • Editing on a stationary device via audio editing software (Audacity, AbletonLIVE, GarageBand).

The final result of the workshop is that each participant will have the experience of making a sound fanzine or audio capsule, and that this activity will function as an introduction and exploration towards other formats such as soundscape, podcast or radio fanzine.

The workshop lasts 2 hours and will be run in collaboration with the Santa Mònica Communication Guild.

After the workshop, at the end, we will record a podcast where we will be able to give an account of what happened as well as show a part of our compositions and have a broadcast created collectively within the Santa Mònica Podcast programme.

Requirements: bring a mobile phone and, optionally, a laptop (it will be possible to follow the activity without a laptop).
