The laboratory investigates the dualism between the living and inert world through the transformation of matter, as a social and collaborative practice, with the aim of promoting free access to artistic materialities through local, sustainable and environmentally friendly means by means of a circular process of waste management in the city of Barcelona, minimising waste at each stage of its transformation. We will experiment with heritage processes and techniques, transforming vegetable and mineral materials into inks and pigments for infinite uses.

We will work on the "new materialisms", through everything that makes it singular and differentiable from others by its specific properties, we usually subordinate it to our senses, erecting it as constitutive of the physical world, being in the scientific sense anything that has weight and occupies space and existing in three main forms: solids, liquids and gases with diverse properties such as density, solubility, conductivity, magnetism, etc. Can matter be taken into account from other possibilities? Perhaps starting from an ontology based on matter will generate new thinking about the human, our evolution and interaction is not unrelated to our changing relationship with the inanimate natural world that perceives the real and the sensory in a physical world open to new explorations.

Activity of the cycle "Art and health. Art as a transformative tool in healing processes" promoted by SocialFestBcn

With the participation of Rafael Romero and Massimo Cova

Rafael Romero, lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona, and the research group M.I.M.A (Memory and Artistic Matter. GINDO-Universitat de Barcelona/188), investigate the transformation of matter, as a social and working practice, with the aim of promoting free access to artistic materialities through sustainable and environmentally friendly means.

Massimo Cova, artist and lecturer at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Barcelona. His recent artistic production adopts, as formal and conceptual references, ephemeral and transitory visual traces present in everyday environments. Traces and traces generated, in a broad sense, by people's behaviour and interactions. Spontaneous visual signs that recall human actions and that can be representative of models of life and thought of our present time.

SOCIAL FEST BCN is a meeting with different actors from the environmental, audiovisual, artistic and creative world to discuss and propose solutions to the social and environmental problems of our cities, with the aim of achieving collective responses towards a more sustainable development.
