Esquirlas, Natalia Garayalde, 70’, 2020
On 3th November 1995, the Río Tercero Military Factory in Córdoba exploded. Thousands of projectiles were fired and scattered in the surrounding villages, causing a tragedy that killed seven people and left hundreds injured and affected. In those days, Natalia Garayalde was just 12 years old, living nearby and playing at filming with a video camera given to her by her father. Twenty-five years later, that record of the tragedy captured through the eyes of a little girl has become a powerful reflection on the mechanisms of power, family relationships and the open wounds that history refuses to close.
Natalia Garayalde was born in 1982 in Río Tercero, Córdoba. She has a degree in Social Communication. She directed the short film YuYos, winner of the FOMECA 2015. Esquirlas is her first feature film.
