We are a space for community debate and reflection from where to interrogate and overflow current forms of knowledge by creating a periodic study group, a small community where to think and act together in dangerously unpromising times.
We take the form of an open study group (or deformed study group, as some of the people who have passed through here prefer to call it), where we hold periodic meetings in which to dialogue with various invited agents. This time we'll be accompanied by Amanda Cuesta, who a few years ago, between 2004 and 2005, carried out a project at the then CASM, invited by Antonio Ortega, called Capital!. 15 sessions were held behind closed doors where more than 50 people from the city's artistic circle attended between 2004 and 2005 around the economy of art, at a time when the subject of professionalisation seemed viable and it was necessary to understand and share our fragilities. As a summary of all this, a book was published under the same title, which came out in 2006.
Then Amanda became a mother, the property bubble burst, the cultural bubble burst, austerity policies were applied, with brutal cuts in all public services, and we took to the streets to protest. In 2013 all her projects were cancelled and I swore that I would never go hungry again (like a drama queen), so with two allies she set up a cooperative, La caníbal, to try to sustain herself in a self-managed way and do her bit for social transformation. Then came a pandemic. He has also been thinking for some time that Capital! should be updated.
In the session on 28 April, he proposes to interact our life stories in a collective chronological thread, to try to understand what has happened to us and to re-politicise our discomforts. Especially when things, as we say from An undisciplined conversation, don't look so good.
