Cicle: Tres interpretacions sobre les maneres de presentació

The exhibition space emerged with the formalization of the museum device. Since then, it has not only been consolidated -either through the two great paradigms of art museums (the neoclassical and the white cube)- but it has also acquired other characteristics and configurations. The clash between the museum and the proposals of temporary exhibitions -such as the great universal exhibitions of the second half of the 19th century, biennials, art fairs, interventions in specific contexts, etc.- also strengthened the expository. This initial phase of the exhibition is largely determined by material culture, the planetary condition (gravity) and classical and modern notions of space-time. Virtuality is thus presented as a sidereal space, a no-dimensionality to be explored.

Martin Grossmann

Professor at the School of Communication and Arts of the University of São Paulo (USP) since 2006. He is also a "culturador" - a specialist in cultural studies and poetics. His academic and cultural career at this university began in 1985. He is the creator (in partnership with Joachim Bernauer) and coordinator of the Fórum Permanente, a platform specialising in analysing and discussing the relationship between art and contemporary culture and their social reception and interface spaces, such as museums, cultural centres, artist-run centres, etc.

He is currently the academic coordinator of the USP Professorship in Art, Culture and Science established at the Institute for Advanced Studies - IEA, in 2015. From 2012 to 2016, Martin Grossmann was director of this Institute. Prior to these positions he was director of the Centro Cultural São Paulo from 2006 to 2010 and deputy director of the Museum of Contemporary Art (MAC) at USP from 1998 to 2002.
