Le noir de l'étoile

Frames Percussion plays one of the major works of music for percussion: Le Noir de l'Étoile by Gérard Grisey, in l’Auditori’s Sampler Series cycle.

In 1985 Gérard Grisey discovered the sounds of pulsars, and decided to compose a piece that could contain them without manipulation, using their frequencies as tempi, and developing the ideas of rotational frequency, deceleration, acceleration and glitches (or errors) that the study of pulsar suggests to astronomers. The result is an almost one hour immersive work called Le Noir de l'Etoile, for six percussionists placed around the audience, tape and recorded astronomical transmissions. The work will be performed by FRAMES Percussion, made up by leading percussionists of the Catalan music scene.
