Poetry Monday
Free admission with limited seating
Monday, September 19, at 7 pm, the cloister at Arts Santa Mònica (La Rambla, 7, Barcelona) will hold a new session of the cycle “Poetry Mondays”, organized by the Institució de les Lletres Catalanes and Arts Santa Mònica, with the collaboration of Núvol, Ara newspaper, the Catalan PEN Association and the Association of Writers in the Catalan Language. This time, the session is dedicated to the poet Marc Granell. The event will be presented by the literary scholar and poet Maria Josep Escrivà, who says of the poet:
“We are grateful that Marc Granell was slow on his feet – which kept him from becoming an athlete, a fashion model, or a dancer and led him down the road to the art of asking questions, and questioning one’s own existence, through his poetic work with words. And so it is that forty years ago, when he wrote his Llarg camí llarg [Long long road], not even he could imagine that, aside from his tired aching feet and his internal darkness, the road would take him so far in his life’s dedication of practicing and proclaiming the galvanic nature of poetry.”
The “Poetry Mondays” cycle at Arts Santa Mònica generates a public space, regularly throughout the year, to raise awareness of the most noteworthy voices in Catalan and international poetry in Barcelona. The presentation on the part of Maria Josep Escrivà will be accompanied by the opening of the recital Granell, de mà en mà, a poetry performance on the figure of Marc Granell, with Francesc Anyó, vocals, and Borja Penalba, guitar, drums and accordion.
