Fernando Pessoa is considered one of the greatest Portuguese language poets. The great aesthetic creation of Pessoa was the invention of the heteronyms, complete poetic personalities: identities that begin as imaginary, but become real through their own diverse art form of the original author. The three most well-known heteronyms (also with most poetic exposure) were Álvaro de Campos, Ricardo Reis and Alberto Caeiro. A forth heteronym of great significance in Pessoa’s work was Bernardo Soares, author of Livro do Desassossego [Book of Disquiet], one of the most important literary works of the 20th century.
