Arts Libris 2015. Sixth edition

Activity
Fair | 23 - 26.04.2015 | Arts Santa Mònica
Fira Internacional de l'Edició Contemporània

This sixth edition marks a turning point in our history. For the first time, photobooks will be devoted a specific section of the fair. Besides, not only artist books and photobooks, but also related formats, such as and the large variety of printed matter created by artists in the 20th and 21st century, will once again be at the center of the stage. And Arts Libris will also enlarge the scope and ambition of its cultural program, so as to become a platform for discussion as well as a context for dissemination and networking.

With this aim, Arts Libris 2015 will strive to bring together in Barcelona, during four days, Europe’s leading professionals in our field: prestigious publishers, attractive booksellers and qualified gallery owners, as well as collectors and book lovers at large, coming from all over Europe.

Arts Libris 2015 counts on the knowledge and experience of a qualified team of advisors: Spanish Horacio Fernández (based in Madrid), historian and curator specialized in photobooks; and artists’ book specialists Moritz Küng (Swiss, based in Barcelona) and Mela Dávila-Freire (Spanish, based in Hamburg).

The extended program of activities in 2015 will include two exhibitions coinciding with the fair: one of them will show a selection of photographs by Jessica Lange, while the other one will show some international artist’s books.

On Friday, April 24th booksellers, collectors and curators will sit down with artists round the tables of an International Symposium, so as to discuss a variety of issues regarding the links between photobooks and artists’ books as well as the making, collecting, exhibiting and distributing of books. The jury of the Arts Libris – Banc Sabadell Foundation Prize will select the best publications of the fair, so as to be acquired and added to the Foundation’s collection.

The sixth edition of Arts Libris will bring about an important novelty: in order to promote publishing and support new editorial projects, we will launch the AL Series: starting in 2015, on occasion of every edition of Arts Libris an artist will be granted a production prize, destined to enable the publication of a new artist book that will be presented in the subsequent edition of the fair. The Mexican Iñaki Bonillas will be the author of issue no. 0 of this new series, which will also be on view during the fair.
