The Santa Mònica is calling for proposals for ephemeral interventions for the Climate Refuge 2024 project. The call is open to all those individuals or groups who wish to create an artistic installation that transforms the terrace of the centre into a more attractive and habitable space during the hottest months of the year.
Proposals can be submitted until 22 January 2024 at 23:59 hours.
The intervention proposal can be framed within any of the disciplines of architecture, landscaping, design and art, with the aim of establishing itself as a climatic refuge for the neighbourhood and the users of the centre.
In the intervention proposals, the following will be taken into account:
- Integration with the surroundings and the centre: Capacity for dialogue with the context and situation of the centre, and the artistic interest and critical capacity of the proposal within the programming line of the Santa Mònica.
- Visibility and versatility: Ability to transform the terrace into an attractive space visible from the Rambla, habitable, accessible, comfortable and flexible, with the possibility of adapting to different situations.
- Sustainability: Ability to soften the climatic conditions of the terrace from May to October. The reuse or later life of the proposal and/or the sustainability of its materials will also be assessed, as well as the internal coherence of the project.
- Technical feasibility: The aim of the call is to physically build an installation that will be maintained for five months (from May to October) on the Santa Mònica terrace. It is understood that the proposals must provide solutions that are resistant to the five months outdoors but with an ephemeral vocation that can be dismantled once the defined period has elapsed. Experience in previous projects will be valued.
- Economic viability: It is understood that the proposal must be able to be completed with the detailed budget and that the person or team selected must be able to issue the corresponding invoices.
What is on offer?
The proposals selected to move on to Phase 2 of development will receive:
- Remuneration of 900 € for the technical development of the proposal (dossier, plans and details) in coordination with the Santa Mònica team for its correct interpretation. Payment will be conditional on the effective delivery of the technical dossier of the proposal within the established deadline.
The selected project that moves on to Phase 3 of production will receive:
- Remuneration of €14,000 for fees and production of the proposal (including materials and construction). The amount of the contract may be paid in two payments: a first payment, relating to the production costs, once the components and elements of the artistic intervention have been manufactured (approximately 50%); and a second payment for the remaining amount, once the work has been mounted and exhibited. Invoicing will have to be done by electronic invoice in accordance with the indications of the centre. The ICEC will monitor and control the services provided by means of the mechanisms and indicators it deems necessary. For these purposes, the team or professional will have to provide the information in accordance with the specifications and deadlines agreed by the ICEC.
- The centre will make available to the selected project the materials it has available.
- Transport and assembly support (a maximum of 4 people from the centre's assembly team).
- Communication and diffusion of the proposal.
